Marvell to Finalize Buying of Intel’s Communications And Applications Processor Business

On June 27, 2006, Marvell announced that it agreed to purchase it for $600 million plus the assumption by Marvell of certain liabilities. With this acquisition, Marvell will design and market a family of processors (codenamed Monahans) for wireless and embedded applications.

More than 99% of the shares represented at the meeting voted in favor of the transaction.

NVIDIA grabs semiconductors and firmware supplier for PMP
Monday, 6 November, 2006 at 8:28 am | In Computer Graphics, Microelectronics, Personal Electronics | Leave a CommentNVIDIA Corporation today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire San Jose, CA-based PortalPlayer, Inc., a leading supplier of semiconductors, firmware, and software for personal media players (PMPs) and secondary display-enabled computers.
Under terms of the agreement, NVIDIA will pay $13.50 in cash for each outstanding share of PortalPlayer common stock, which represents a total purchase price of approximately $357 million, or approximately $161 million net of cash on PortalPlayer’s balance sheet as of September 30, 2006. The purchase price represents approximately a 19% premium to the 20-day average closing price of PortalPlayer through Friday, November 3, 2006. This acquisition has been approved by the Board of Directors of each company and is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

Avnet to Buy Access Distribution
Monday, 6 November, 2006 at 8:19 am | In IT distribution, Microelectronics | 3 CommentsAvnet, Inc. and MRA Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of General Electric Company, announced today that they have reached a definitive agreement for Avnet to acquire Access Distribution, a General Electric company and leading value-added distributor of complex computing solutions for $412,5 million in cash, subject to adjustments based upon net book value at closing. It is anticipated that the transaction, which is subject to normal regulatory approvals, will close by the end of calendar 2006.
